Internet Goes on Strike!
On January 18, 2012, thousands of sites will go dark to protest SOPA & PIPA, two US bills that Congress is trying to push through that threatens free speech and innovation on the Internet. It effectively invokes Internet censorship, all under the banner of anti-piracy efforts. For more information go to http://americancensorship.org.

Happy New Year!
Hope everyone had a rewarding and prosperous 2011. Jessica was pretty sick down the home stretch, so we rang in the New Year hanging with Dick Clark. For those of you with an iPhone, there is a cool camera app called 6x6 that emulates a 6x6 medium format film camera. The viewfinder is as if you are looking directly at the ground glass. For those who are unaware, most modern cameras have a prism that flips the image in the viewfinder to reflect how your eye sees the scene. When looking directly at ground glass, the image is flipped/reversed (no mirrors). It takes a little getting use to when framing your photo (left means right, right means left). 6x6 has a black and white mode that gives a nice film feel to the image. I love the square format and hopefully you'll come to enjoy it too. The following is a series of candid shots on Christmas morning.

A Blood Red Moon
Starting at 05:30 this morning, the last total lunar eclipse until 2014 took place. It was clear and cold, but I got out of bed and shot the various stages. Unfortunately, the moon dropped behind some low cloud cover shortly after the full eclipse.
A lunar eclipse happens when the Earth slips between the sun and the moon, casting a long shadow on the lunar surface and darkening it. But sunlight filters in through the edges of the Earth’s atmosphere, casting a reddish-orange glow on the moon.

Showstoppers!
Jessica is a member of her school's Show Choir. This past week they had their Holiday Concert. Below are some photos which were shot ambient at high iso.
Winter, 2011 Performance
The studio has grown by leaps and bounds. It's now to the point where we need to schedule small groups at different times to accommodate everyone. Lots of new faces this time around and they all did fantastic. I mixed, filmed and recorded the show and Terrie shot the photos.

CSU Faculty - On Strike!
CARSON, CA (November 17, 2011) - The California Faculty Association (CFA) participated in a one day strike protesting for fair wages and quality education for students on the campus of Cal State Dominguez Hills.
"Treating faculty fairly does not require fee hikes for students, but it DOES require the Chancellor to change his priorities." Enough is Enough!

Morning Glory
Fall is finally here. The other morning I was up early and it was a cool 52 degrees. Just before 06:00, I was witness to this beautiful sunrise. The color only lasted about 10 minutes. I could have easily been doing something else and missed it. Timing is everything...

Friday Night Hoops
It's that time again. This was my first hoops outing for the 2011-12 season. Cal State Fullerton hosted Cal State Los Angeles in pre-season action. Although CSULA is a D2 school, they hung in pretty tough for the first half. In the second half, CSUF pulled away and cruised to a 71-56 final.
For me, it was amateur hour most of the evening. I had equipment problems with my remote camera, remote trigger and in the end, shot my main camera with +2/3 exposure compensation all night. This setting was in the camera from the previous weekend's soccer match. Anyway, here's a few action shots from the night.

Halloween Images
The images below are all taken with the iPhone 4S. The new camera is pretty amazing in low light. Most are shot in almost complete darkness, except for a strobe light or two.
