Tidepools - Day 157

LA JOLLA, Calif. (June 7, 2024) - This was my first outing with the Sony FE PZ 16-35mm f/4 lens. It was really nice to have something wider than 35mm. The lens performed awesome and is very sharp throughout the frame. Here are some images from the lens.

Medium Format - Portraits - Day 156

June 4, 2024 - Portraits of Wes and Tokyo captured with the XCD 80mm wide open.

Medium Format - Bunny Rock - Day 154

CORONA DEL MAR, Calif.  (June 2, 2024) - Captured during high tide, where I was backed up all the way against the cliffs. Actually took on some water over the boots. Shot with the Hasselblad XCD 45mm.

Medium Format - 2024 - Little Corona - Day 148

Medium Format - 2024 - Northen Lights - Day 133

OMAHA, NE (May 12, 2024) - So the previous evening was magnificent, but I had taken relatively short exposures. What I wanted to do on this evening was to get a longer exposure so I could see the star trails rotating around the North Star. Unfortunately, at around 22:00 there was nothing and I was ready to call it. But around 23:00, I decided to start an exposure for about 30 minutes for the hell of it. After about 25 minutes, I went back outside to bring the camera in. To my surprise, I could see a green glow coming up on the horizon. It quickly escalated to an awesome show, but for only 8 minutes and then it was gone. Below is my 25 minute exposure using the Hasselblad X2D with the XCD 45mm. A longer exposure would have been better, but it would have stopped after 40 minutes. Just glad I decided to shoot this one.

The Northern Lights - Day 132

OMAHA, NE (May 11, 2024) - In my mind, the only place to view the Northern Lights is from Iceland. Every photo I’ve ever seen, seems to be from there. Imagine my surprise when I’m in Omaha watching the morning news and they are saying that the Northern Lights will be visible tonight? I couldn’t believe it, but was outside with the camera that evening. To the naked eye, all I saw was a little glow on the horizon and then some vertical shafts were starting to form, but nothing like I have seen in photos. It wasn’t until I pulled out my phone to take a photo, and then I could see everything! What a night!

OMAHA, NE (May 9, 2024) - Shot some images of Ziggy, Clover and Rose. Although Rose, the most recent addition, was to hard to get close to. All shot with the XCD 80mm at f/1.9.

Medium Format - 2024 - Sake - Day 126

May 5, 2024 - Caught Sake laying by the front door and because the natural light was so nice, I grabbed the Hasselblad and captured this image with the XCD 80mm at f/1.9. This is one of those magical lenses that almost always gives a pleasing rendition.

Medium Format - 2024 - Day 118

April 27, 2024 - Testing the canned Hasselblad templates with some images of Wes and Mochi. Both shot with the XCD 45P. Love this lens…

Spring Wildlife - Day 118

ORANGE, Calif. - Some very nice activity in Orange County this spring. This is probably the best year I can remember for the Barn Owls.

Medium Format - 2024 - Seascape Pano - Day 112

CORONA DEL MAR, Calif. (April 21, 2024) - Had previously shot the Voigtlander 50mm APO-Lanthar and found that it was a little too tight. I was backed up against the cliff and had no wiggle room. So I brought the Hasselblad X2D with the 45mm and shot a composite vertical pano of the scene. The image is comprised of 6 images with an average exposure of a minute each. I was pleased with the spacing and framing in this shot. It does justice to such a beautiful place. The combined image came out to 285 megapixel.

Seascapes - Part 1 - Day 111

CORONA DEL MAR, Calif. (April 20, 2024) - Headed down to the beach this weekend for some seascapes. The average exposure for these images was about 1 minute each. All shot with the Sony A7R3 and the Voigtlander 50mm APO-Lanthar lens.

Fledged Owlet - 2024 - Day 106

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (April 15, 2024) - A recently fledged Owlet still hanging around near the nest.

Medium Format - 2024 - Day 105

April 14, 2024 - Woke up early to a cat laying on my stomach. I clicked the light on to identify which cat,  and found Mochi staring at me. Luckily, I had a camera on the bed within reach and captured the image below. Shot handheld with the Hasselblad XCD 45mm wide open, 1/25th at ISO 6400 with only a lamp light in the room. The X2D IBIS is so good that it allows you to take sharp photos that weren’t previously possible. So amazing…

Medium Format - 2024 - Day 104

ORANGE, Calif. (April 13, 2024) - Early morning shot of an interesting tree with the Hasselblad X2D. This tree found a way to grow under the canopy of another tree. Handheld 1/80th, f/4 at ISO 400.

Medium Format - 2024 - Day 97

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (April 6, 2024) - Got out early to test out the new Kase magnetic filters. This image was shot at 06:45 with the Hasselblad X2D at f/11, ISO 100, at 16 seconds with a 10 stop ND filter. The Kase filters are awesome and so convenient vs. using the Lee Filter holder system.

April Fools/Cesar Chavez Day

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (April 1, 2024) - Was off work today for the Cesar Chavez holiday. It was a quiet morning in the Wetlands being a work day for most. However, the Terns were around and making a lot of noise.

Medium Format - 2024 - Day 84

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (March 24, 2024) - A beautiful scene captured shortly after sunrise in the Wetlands.

Northern Harrier - 2024 - Day 84

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (March 24, 2024) - It’s been quite a while since I’ve seen her. As I was walking across the berm, something caught my eye to the right. As I locked focus, I realized that she was flying right at me. What a beautiful sight, made my morning.
