Jessica performs Dylan

In mid-September, I recorded and filmed my 6th music performance. This particular show was held outdoors which posed a whole new set of challenges. For this particular show, I used a MOTU firewire interface and recorded and mixed the show live from a MacBook Pro using Apple Logic. I was very pleased with the performance of the preamps in the MOTU.

This was the largest show to date with 22 performers of all ages. Jessica arranged and performed a song that was written by Bob Dylan 26 years before she was born!

Jessica's 11th Birthday

Hi all,

Sorry I have not updated in a while. The main reason is that I was locked out of my own account. It is not possible to contact Blogger support. You can only post to a public forum and hope someone answers your question. Luckily, I found an old email that offered me an option to change my password and the link still worked.

Anyway, I'm going to post some updates in chronological order. Back in September, Jessica turned 11! Here's a quick video of her happy birthday song.

Baseball with St. Jude

I went out a couple of weeks ago to cover a minor league baseball game between the Orange County Flyers and the Tucson Toros. When I arrived, to my surprise the field was chalked with pink lines and the Flyers' players were wearing pink jerseys! As it turns out, St. Jude Medical Center in Fullerton was hosting a Breast Cancer Awareness day. The player's uniforms were later auctioned off with the proceeds going to the St. Jude Kathryn T. McCarty Breast Cancer Center. Below is a page from the St. Jude Medical Center newsletter where some of my photos were used. It was a very elaborate and well executed promotion and I'm glad I could be a part of it.

4th of July - 2010

Had a small get together with family and friends. Had some good food, drinks and laughs, then it was time to break out the "Block Party" (a large box of fireworks).

Western Super-Regionals

The western Super-Regional was hosted by UCLA. CSUF won the first game and was one out away from a trip to Omaha for the College World Series. That is until UCLA hit a late two run home run to take game 2. UCLA ended up winning game 3 convincingly.

Western Regionals

I covered the Big West Regional Baseball tournament in early June. Cal State Fullerton lost their first game, then won four straight from the losers bracket to win the Regional. Here's a few shots from the Regional.

Almost died twice here. A hard line drive hit the wall right in front of Bryan and I. The rule is to hug the wall because the ball spins off like a pool table. Bryan moved out and almost took one on the rib (note the ball between his body and monopod). The secondary danger for me was to have a 6'7" man fall on and crush me.

The Red One

Had a busy June, so I'm just trying to catch up with some stories and images. Had my first encounter with a Red One camera. All I can say is wow! The raw 4k+ footage was actually too big to work with. It had to be converted to Pro Res in order to be usable. I'll get another chance to play with it later this month with a matte box, follow focus and better monitor. The following shot shows me and the Red with an 85mm Zeiss prime. Killer DOF!

Las Vegas Golf (Part 3)

Spent last weekend in Las Vegas for my good friend Curt's birthday party. Thanks to Jason for hooking us up at Angel Park Golf Club. It was a perfect day for golf, 86 degrees, no wind and plenty of cold beer. A good time was had by all.

Just an fyi, Curt's son Brent is 12 years old and wiped the floor with everyone by shooting an 86! Great job Brent!

This is a shot from the remote camera on the tee box. Note the dragonfly in the frame ;-)

2010 Mt. SAC Relays - Day 3

In April, I spent three days out in Walnut, California covering the Mt. San Antonio College Relays. This was actually the 52nd running and my 5th year covering the event. It's nice because you get a mix of high school, college and elite/Olympic athletes.
