Sweet Sixteen

As a matter of attrition, our soccer region now has one U16 Girls team. Essentially, we are now a traveling soccer club. We have had three games in the cities of Huntington Beach, Cypress and Los Alamitos. The remaining girls were split amongst three teams last season, so they are just now beginning to gel and play as a team. Here are a few selections from the first two games.

New Blood

CARSON, Calif. (September 14, 2014) - Under new Head Coach Aileen Nasypany, the Toros are off to a rough start. Nasypany brings a wealth of soccer experience ranging from club to professional levels. She played collegiate soccer at Canisius College in New York and at Bentley University in Massachusetts. She began coaching at Herkimer County Community College in New York. Although off to a slow start, I expect good things to come.

Pre-Season Soccer

CARSON, Calif. (August 23, 2014) - Decided to dust off the glass and get out for some pre-season soccer to get the timing back before the season. CSUDH hosted Concordia University at Toro Stadium.  Definitely rusty, but here are some images from the game. The Toros won the game 1-0.

During the game a swarm of small birds were chasing this hawk right above the field.

The Gladiators

IRVINE, Calif - CrossFit Redemption based out of Huntington Beach put together a team for the Gladiator Rock'n Run at Great Irvine Park. This was my first experience with this event and I honestly didn't know what to expect. In addition, I didn't know the layout of the course. I ended up hoofing it across the old El Toro Airbase tundra with all my camera gear trying to keep up with the team. The course was a 5k, so it was a pretty good workout. All in all, it was a great experience and I would definitely cover it again. Here are some images from the day.
