The view after the storm

 February, 2023 - Had one of the largest storms in recent history roll through Southern Cal. The local mountains took the brunt of it. Once the rain moved out, it was very scenic.

Kestrels and Kites

 February, 2023 - More love happening with some White-tailed Kites mating, nest building and hunting. Also, a very pretty Kestrel posing for photos.

Voigtlander 21mm Color Skopar

 February, 2023 - Picked up a used Voigtlander 21mm Color Skopar f/3.5 for a great price. This lens is so small, it’s like shooting a pancake lens. To test this lens, I setup a tripod early one morning and didn’t even focus the lens. Just rotated it to infinity at f/8 and shot the image. The first thing I noticed about the image was how rectilinear it was. Very straight! It is not the sharpest in the corners, but very acceptable. Anyway, here’s a shot of a building before sunrise. Shot with the Leica SL2, ISO 100, f/8 at 6 seconds.

 February, 2023 - Love is in the air in the Wetlands this month.

 HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (January, 2023) - The New Year also brought the return of this juvenile Bald Eagle. Based on his appearance, it is believed that he is approximately 4 years old. You can still see some brown in his head, but by next year it should be all white. It’s been hard to track him down as he is visiting several locations in the area. However, this month I was fortunate to catch him in the wetlands. 

Seal Beach Surf

 SEAL BEACH, Calif. (January, 2023) - It’s been several years since I’ve witnessed Seal Beach break like this month. Not only did we put a nice dent in our drought, but the waves were pretty epic.

Wetlands Part 2 - Raptors

 January, 2023 - There was quite a bit of action from some raptors this month. There have been three female Northern Harriers around regularly as well as the Ospreys.

January, 2023 - The New Year brought some interesting opportunities so far. I was able to see a Sea Lion that made his way into the wetlands and decided to feast on some octopus. So cool to witness.

December, 2022 Images

 January 1, 2023 - Happy New Year! It seems like 2022 passed by in the blink of an eye. From a photography perspective, it was really nice to get back some pre Covid normalcy. As always, I hope to get out and shoot more in 2023. Hope everyone has a wonderful and prosperous year.
